Abe for Cinco de Mayo

Sooo... this is the painting I created for Molly's documentary. I think it's pretty awesome, but apparently nobody at Balboa Park Sunday morning felt the same way. I did not sell it, as I had hoped, but I'm thinking I might be able to sell/ donate it to The High Dive. They have some silly, kitschy artwork there and for Cinco de Mayo, they are encouraging everyone to come with a mustache. Maybe they will want it. We'll see.

Sleepy time for the furball

The baby is so sleepy! That is how I feel, but I have so many things to do today. Bah.

This amazes me

I am still contemplating what I am going to paint for Molly's project, but I stumbled upon this photo here and the second one here. I am thinking of possibly painting someone who is underwater, because I think it could turn out to be a great picture. Type "person underwater" into your google search box. There are many amazing photos.

Silliness

I found this gem today. For Molly's project where she documents myself, along with 2 other human beings, doing something I want to do before I die, I am making a painting to try to sell.* I'm still trying to figure out what I want to paint, but I think I might want to paint Obama. I love him and I think it would be fun to paint his face! However, while I was perusing the web, I found this picture. So hilarious!

High Diving

This week, the High Dive group consisted of just Jaymi and I. We celebrated the fact that I got 100% on an Essay for my Mark Twain class by drinking four beers. It was an excellent time and we found out that if we bring our own container, they will fill it up with the delicious gorg sauce that we consume gallons at a time.

I will be there next week with an empty milk jug.

Swap and Meet

I went to the Swap Meet! It was pretty fun. I had fried mini donuts and they were delicious. I also bought a stack of old books. They are pretty amazing. I think the oldest one is from the twenties of thirties. A pair of $5 fake Marc Jacobs aviators might have followed me home too. It's hard to say.

Look at the picture above, because while Molly was ordering a snow cone, I glanced over to where they make the lemonade. If you notice, about 1/5 of the cup is filled with sugar before they pour the actual lemonade in the cup. I hope no one looks at this and still wonders why there is an obesity problem in America.

My Day Off

I don't have to work tomorrow. I am very excited for all of things I plan to do. I know for sure I am getting up early with Molly and going to watch Jeremiah sky dive. Exciting! I am going to be nervous, but I'm sure it will be fun. Also, after, we are all going to the swap meet. I hope to eat delicious foods and buy pirated things. We'll see how it goes... I do hope to head over to Michael's and make some amazing crafts.

My life at some point

Maybe I just spend too much time looking at awesome blogs, but I want to make my living by making crafts and art. I can do both of those things, but I am just having trouble thinking of a way I can support myself by doing them. I basically want to be color me katie.

If you have any ideas on how I might accomplish this, let me know...

Also, Benderamus and I have decided that after our small stint apart, we are going to live in New York together. We are going to get a map of NY to put on the wall and familiarize ourselves with the city. I want to live in Brooklyn.

Yikes!

Monday I interviewed for the Editor position of my section at the paper. I have been there for more than a year now, and it's my third time applying. I was told that today they will call me to let me know what the verdict is ... I am excited, but also crazy nervous.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Something I want

I love things. Especially these cards from Rifle Paper company. I love their folksy, adorable pictures. One day I hope to have business cards from them that have my picture painted on them!!

Also, Glee is back! Make sure you watch it ... or else ...

I want to do things

You may or may not know, but Molly and I have discovered "The Buried Life." I am totally in love with it. Four guys made a list of 100 things they want to do before they die and for each one that they cross off the list, they help someone else cross one off of their list too. It's so hilarious and touching.

That being said, logically the next step was for Molly and I to create our own list. We only have about 30 things so far, but I'm sure the list will grow. "Meet Jon Stewart" was definitely on there, just so you know.

I will let you know as we cross items off our list.

Blog, blog, blog, blog

I have discovered so many blogs recently. I just found one called "Mixed Plate." You can view it here: http://www.mixedplateblog.com/. I absolutely adore the shirt that says, "I like to say things and eat stuff." I think I also want the one that says "I'll never stop pooping." It's true ... for everyone. (I'm especially talking to you Benderamus!)

Also, today I burned an old cupcake in the micro. It smells really, really bad. I don't really understand what happened...

Procrastination

I had all of last week to read the Mark Twain biography for my Mark Twain class and guess what I did... watch a bunch of Always Sunny episodes that I have already seen. Now I must scramble to read the book and write an essay by tomorrow at 3:30.

Wish Me Luck!

Also, this is what my professor looks like.

Alas, the end has come...

Spring Break is now over folks. I spent most of it doing very little. I spent much of my time on the couch, which was nice. I needed to relax a bit. One thing I did do a lot of was make crafts. I am so in love with good ole' Martha right now! And a bunch of wedding blogs (which I found have the cutest crafts.)

I made many cute things this week. However, this feather hair clip and ribbon necklace were my two faves! Enjoy.

Salad

I made this salad from the whole foods website. It sounded good, had asparagus and strawberries, which I really enjoy. Alas, it was not. It tasted like grass. The part that really drew me in was the dressing, and I think that was the part that ruined it for me. It was made with half an avocado and half a cup of OJ and some green onions. It just tasted like green orange juice. No bueno. It did look lovely, however.

Dream Sequence

I love my satellite radio. We get stations through our TV and I always listen to it. Right now my favorite is "Dream Sequence." Every time I turn it on, the song "Falling out of love" by Aqualung and "Slow like Honey" by Fiona Apple play. They are really good, really mellow songs. Love it! And for some reason, every time I listen to my other favorite station, "pop standards" (exclusively big band) the song "Embraceable You" by Judy Garland plays. I love it. I feel like the satellite radio knows me personally.

Well, I'm trying

I started today with a delicious breakfast of TJ's Greek Honey yogurt and fresh strawberries and blueberries sprinkled on top. A good way to start my single-ingredient foods diet. Lunch was pretty nutritious and delicious as well, but after Molly and I were ready to leave L.A. today and drive home, we opted for some In-N-Out and I couldn't resist the #2, also known as the cheeseburger with fries and a soda. I cracked, but hey, it's my first day. Tomorrow I will solely eat celery.

Also, Molly and I went to a taping of the Bonnie Hunt show today. It was fun and we got to meet Bonnie and chat with her. She was very sweet and Molly may have cried hysterically because Bonnie is her, "number one hero."

Look for us on Monday's show. We will be sitting in the front behind Bonnie's Producer Don Lake.

I made this

I love Martha Stewart. She has the best crafts. There was one on her website that said you can get a piece of velvet ribbon and attach an old brooch to it and make it an adorable bracelet. I did attempt this, as I have an old brooch that I rarely wear. However, I did not like how it turned out. So I decided to make little fabric flowers that Martha also taught me to make and attach them to the ribbon. This is how it turned out. I think it would fit very well in the jewelry section of Anthropologie.

Good Food

I set out to Henry's and Trader Joe's today in order to start my new habit of eating single ingredient foods a la Michael Pollan. I love going to the grocery store when you're seriously out of food, because you can start all over again. That's what I did today. I have many fresh fruits and veggies that I can't wait to stir up into culinary delights! I am going to be so healthy.

Happy Things

I saw a blog on Yahoo! that had a list of 101 everyday things that will make you happy. Although I very much liked the idea, the blog seemed silly as the list featured would only appeal specifically to the person who wrote it and everyone's list would be subjective. That being said, here is my list of 101 things that make me happy (let's see if I can get there!):

2. Gilmore Girls
3. Gilmore Girls "la la" music that plays in the background

the Ducksons and the Lizardsons. And Adrian.)

How long has it been since I started this list? Goodness, many things make me happy, but 101 is a long list. I will have to continue later, after I catch some Zs.

Hands

The other day I was shopping with my buddy Julz. While she was looking for clothes and I was looking for something obnoxious to do, I found this lone mannequin hand. I love that it was sitting on a display by itself, as if the rest of the body ran off and forgot it.

Holga

As you may or may not know, I have a Holga camera and I love it. I am on my second round of film and I believe it is "vivid color." I spent almost a whole roll just taking close-up photos of flowers in Balboa Park. I can't wait to see what they look like. I still have a few more exposures left to snap up before I get this roll developed. Until then, enjoy these beauts from my last go around.

Welcome!

Hello friends! I got bored with my old blog, so I am moving on to this one. Right now, what I have going on is one page of a short story I need to finish for my creative writing class on Monday and a few insights into what might be my next painting. I'm feeling the urge again.

Also, I want to eat better like Michael Pollan said I should. I will try, we'll see how it goes...
